U.S. safety resources

Safety comes before relationship advice.

Fear, threats, forced contact, financial restriction, stalking and sexual coercion are not ordinary communication problems. You do not need to prove that your experience is “serious enough” before seeking confidential support.

If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency service. This website is not monitored and cannot provide emergency response.

Start with what is happening now

Choose the situation that feels closest.

You do not need a diagnosis or legal label. This selector does not save your choice and does not determine whether abuse has occurred.

Immediate safety

Move toward emergency support, not a relationship conversation.

If violence, a weapon, forced confinement, threats or an escalating emergency may be present, prioritize leaving the immediate area when possible and contacting emergency help from a safer device or location.

1Call 911 or your local emergency service if immediate response is needed.
2Move toward a safer public place, trusted person or secure room when possible.
3Do not confront the other person with this page or a relationship script if that could increase danger.
Internet activity may be monitored. Opening an external resource may also appear in browser history.

When ordinary conflict advice may not fit

The issue is not only “communication” when choice is unsafe.

A relationship can include both ordinary disagreements and abusive behavior. The presence of fear, coercion or restriction changes what advice is appropriate.

You do not need every sign on this page before speaking with a confidential advocate.

You are afraid of what may happen if you disagree. You change your behavior to avoid threats, punishment, retaliation or escalation.
Your movement, work, money or communication is restricted.Access to transportation, accounts, identification, employment, health care or supportive people is controlled.
Private devices or accounts are monitored.Passwords, location, messages or browser activity are demanded, tracked or used to intimidate you.
Sexual contact is pressured, forced or treated as an obligation.Consent must be voluntary and can be withdrawn, including within marriage or a long-term relationship.
Unwanted contact continues after you ask it to stop.Repeated calls, messages, appearances, surveillance or threats may require specialized stalking support.
Threats of self-harm are used to control your choices.A partner’s crisis deserves professional support, but you do not have to surrender your safety or boundaries to manage it alone.

Device and browsing safety

Use a safer device when monitoring is possible.

Quick Exit can remove the current page state and open a neutral website, but it cannot erase browser history, router logs, synced activity, screenshots or monitoring software.

Official domestic violence resources also warn that internet use can be monitored and may be impossible to erase completely.

Read privacy guidance
1Use a device and account the other person cannot access when possible.
2Consider private browsing, while remembering it does not hide activity from every system.
3Avoid downloading or printing safety material if discovery could increase risk.
4Ask an advocate about technology safety and a personalized safety plan.

What reaching out can look like

You can ask questions without committing to one decision.

A trained advocate may help you think through choices. They do not need you to have a complete plan before you contact them.

1

Describe only what feels safe

You can begin with a question, one behavior or a general concern. You do not have to tell your entire story at once.

2

Explore options

Support may include safety planning, emotional support, local referrals, shelter information or help understanding available services.

3

Keep decision-making with you

Ask the service how confidentiality and any reporting obligations work. Policies can vary, but you can still ask questions about your options before sharing more detail.
